Motorcycle Collisions in Rural Areas

On Behalf of Cranwell & Moore P.L.C., Attorneys at Law April 19, 2019

When some people think about driving or riding a motorcycle in a rural environment, they may think that it is safer and less stressful than driving in an urban area. However, it is important to keep in mind that there are all sorts of hazards on rural roads and that many motorcycle accidents take place in these areas. Not only do motorcyclists run the risk of colliding with a vehicle, but there are other risk factors to be aware of as well, from poor road conditions due to ice or rainfall and even wildlife such as a deer that darts onto the road.

In some places, roads may be in desperate need of repair, and a motorcyclist may lose control after riding over a pothole. Sharp turns, hills and many other situations can be especially dangerous. Unfortunately, many motorcyclists have been seriously injured in crashes occurring in rural places, and far too many have passed away also. It is important to be vigilant whenever you ride a motorcycle, whether you find yourself in a rural, urban or suburban environment.

In some instances, motorcyclists and drivers may feel more comfortable on rural roads since there is less traffic. However, this can lead to complacency which can significantly increase the chances of something going wrong. Wherever you are riding a motorcycle, you should always stay alert. Moreover, if you are struck by a careless driver, you may need to explore the possible benefits of filing a lawsuit to access the benefits that you deserve.
