Senior drivers have a higher risk of injury in an auto accident

Since 1999, the number of licensed older drivers on the road has increased by 50 percent. Over 40 million senior citizens maintain their license to stay independent and mobile. Unfortunately, the risk of being seriously injured in an auto accident increases as a person ages. Fortunately, there are things that seniors can do to stay safe on the road.

Girl dies; father, siblings hurt in Virginia train-car collision

Virginia residents may be aware that there have been several train-car collisions in the United States recently, and a number of people have been injured or killed in those accidents. Sadly, train-car accidents are often deadlier than motor vehicle accidents because of the size and momentum of a train, even when it is moving at a moderate speed. Virginia residents probably know that driving is a privilege and not a right. After all, drivers must show their ability to control a vehicle by passing a battery of driving skill tests and showing knowledge of Virginia's motor vehicle laws by passing a written test. Even after obtaining the legal privilege to drive, there is little guarantee that any driver will be responsible. Car accidents cannot be ruled out and deaths are, unfortunately, common on Virginia roads.

The major reasons behind motor vehicle collisions in Virginia are distracted driving, drunk driving and driving under the influence of drugs.
